Women's Ultimate Frisbee team took a giant step towards their goal of making the National Championships, this past weekend, when they won the Metro Boston Sectional tournament held in Lancaster, Massachusetts. The team was ranked 1st in their pool and 2nd overall in the tournament.
In their first game the women's ultimate team, also known as the Valkeries, squared off against Boston University. The team played a good game and was able to control BU’s top three players. The Valkeries finished the game with a 13-3 victory. Next was the Wellesley- B team and Northeastern was able to dominate start to finish, beating Wellesley 13-0. In the third game on Saturday the team was matched up against Boston College. Here the team was able to work in a large number of players and come away with a 13-3 victory. Finally in their fourth and final game of the day the team faced off against the Wellesley-A team, who proved to be the toughest competition of the day. The back and forth game, combined with some errors from the Valkeries led to a close game however Northeastern was able to come away with a 13-9 victory.
Sunday morning brought the final game of pool play and Northeastern faced the Tufts-B team. The game allowed the Valkeries to put an all-rookie line on the field at the same time and the game ended with Northeastern on top 13-2.
In the finals Northeastern was pitted against the Tufts- A team, who was the #1 seed in the tournament and is a perennial Nationals contender, who was the best opponent the Valkeries would face all weekend. After Tufts took a 4-1 lead Northeastern called a timeout to re-group and then took the field determined to turn the game around. The Valkeries went on a 10-0 run taking a 11-4 lead. After trading points back and forth Northeastern finished the game ahead 15-8.
The final victory against Tufts game the women's ultimate team the tournament title at the Metro Boston Sectionals and gives the team a huge confidence boost heading into the Regional tournament to be held May 3-4 also in Lancaster. The top two finishers from the Regional tournament qualify for the National Championship tournament in Boulder, Colorado May 16-18.

The newly formed Northeastern University Paintball team completed their first trip to the National Collegiate Paintball Championships, held in Lakeland, Florida. The team was entered in the College 5-Man division.
The team had a great showing in the preliminary round, finishing with a 6-2 record, beating the following schools: Air Force Academy, Ohio University, Embry Riddle University, Eastern Illinois University, Illinois State University and Clemson University. The team dropped matches to the University of Florida and Liberty University during the opening round. The finish was good for an 8th place ranking out of the 41 entered teams with the top 16 advancing to the next round of competition.
The Huskies then hit an obstacle in the semi-final round being matched up with three strong teams from Virginia Tech, University of Wisconsin- Whitewater and Illinois State University. The Northeastern Paintball team put up a good fight but dropped all three matches during the semi-final round.
The Paintball club had a successful trip to the National Championship in their first year and ended up ranked 22nd in the nation out of 81 schools.
